Early Years High Needs Base Provision
• Grosvenor Nursery School is also an Early Years SEND High Needs Base.
• There are 12 part time places, funded by Bolton Council, for children with complex high needs.
• These places are allocated by the ‘Early Years SEND High Needs Base Panel’ which
is made up of a group of SEND professionals and lead by Bolton Council.
• A child may be referred to Bolton Council for a place by a professional who works with
them and their family e.g. GP, Paediatrician, Speech Therapist, Health Visitor, Nursery
• Children who are allocated 15 hour places attend either morning or afternoon sessions,
term time only.
• Children who are eligible for 30 Hours Childcare will be allocated full day sessions
(8.45-3.30). There is a charge for lunchtime sessions.
• The Early Years SEND High Needs Base Provision offers a smaller nursery
environment and outdoor area, planned to meet the children’s individual needs and a
higher adult:child ratio. Children in the Early Years SEND High Needs Base are
included within the mainstream nursery environment and activities as much as
possible, according to their individual needs.
• Our staff attend specific training for children’s individual needs and work closely with
Speech and Language Therapy, Ladywood Outreach Service and Green Fold Special
School to ensure they are providing the appropriate support for the children.
Transport to and from School
• If parents would like to access Local Authority Transport Services for children in the Early Years High Needs Base, they should apply to Bolton Council to see if they meet the criteria.
• When children travel to school on transport we do not see parents every day and some children cannot communicate or talk about their day in school, so each day the children will bring home a diary.
• This is written by their Key Person to inform parents about their child’s day and to convey any important messages.
• We encourage parents to write in the diary too in order to pass on messages from home.
• A snack and milk is available for children each session.
• Where children are allocated full day sessions, parents can purchase school meals from the Nursery Kitchen through our Daycare Manager.
• The Meal Plan is available in nursery and will be sent home for children arriving via transport.
• Please let us know if your child has any particular dietary or feeding requirements.
• A high adult:child ratio is maintained through mealtimes so that children with feeding difficulties can be supported and self-help and social skills can be developed.
Working with other agencies
• We have regular contact with other professional agencies to support our children and many of them come into school on a regular basis to work with the children and alongside staff.
• We arrange regular meetings with parents and professionals to discuss their child’s progress and to give advice and support for transition to Primary School and if any formal assessment procedures are necessary to ensure appropriate support continues into Primary School.
