Our new Gravel Pit encourages concentration, pouring, filling, lifting, sharing, turn-taking, imaginative play and lots of discussion.
Nursery School’s Summer outing this year was a picnic at Moses Gate Country Park. We all walked there and back, enjoyed the children’s playground and some games on the field as well as having a wonderful picnic.
Some of the children showed how kind and caring they are when they went to visit Farnworth Care Home. They paired-up with the residents to plant Sunflower and Sweet William seeds. Ellen took them into the garden to show them their sensory plants and find a home for their plant pots. They will be safe on the pagoda ledge, where one of the gentlemen can reach to water them. We made the residents extremely happy; they loved spending time with the children. We are so proud of them. We are planning a return visit in a few weeks to see if the seeds have grown.
Day Care wore their pyjamas and brought their favourite bedtime stories to read and Nursery School dressed-up as characters from the story ‘Rumble in the Jungle’.
We celebrated Chinese New Year by tasting Chinese food. Some children were really good at eating with chopsticks and we played lots of games to help the others learn how to use them.
The children have been really inspired by the men who have been pollarding the trees in the grounds this week (and we have all learned a new word – it means cutting the trees right back so that new young branches will grow). They have been acting it out in their play with ladders, rope harnesses and a pretend chain saw. Look how busy they have been!
During November the 3-4 year-olds enjoyed weekly dance sessions with Vicky, our dance teacher. They learned a lot of moves and really looked forward to her weekly visits. They became more and more confident as the weeks went by …….. just look at them by the end!
